Storing & Freezing M&M Brownies

Storing: You can store M&M brownies at room temperature for 3-4 days r for up to a week in the refrigerator.

If storing frosted brownies in the fridge and you don't want the frosting to stick to a container or plastic wrap, follow the instructions for freezing and just place them into the fridge once wrapped up.

Freezing: Freezing frosted brownies can be somewhat of a challenge. It's recommended to first, freeze the brownies on a tray or plate uncovered in the freezer until the frosting is very firm. Once the frosting is firm, wrap the brownies in plastic wrap, then place them in an airtight container. If frozen, the brownies will last for up to 3 months.

Substitutions for M&M Brownies:

All Purpose Flour: We don't recommend substituting the flour, but you can check out this article on Cake Flour vs. All-Purpose Flour or Substitutions for All-Purpose Flour

Cocoa Powder: You can use any type of cocoa powder here. Cocoa powder is not the same as hot cocoa or cacao.

Butter: Butter is essential to this recipe. We haven't tried it with dairy free butter.

Sugar: You can substitute brown sugar for white sugar in this recipe. Add ½ tablespoon of molasses if you have it, but if not, white sugar will work

Eggs: Substituting Eggs can be difficult! We don't recommend substituting eggs here, but you can check out this post on Egg Substitutions for Baking for other ideas

Vanilla Extract: Helps to add flavor, we don't recommend substituting.

Heavy Cream: Heavy cream is really helps to make a thick ganache frosting. Half and half will work, but milk or non dairy milk will not work as well.

M&M Brownie Recipe Tips

  • Don't overmix - As with most batter overmixing is often why some recipes don't work out. Be gentle and fold your batter.
  • Grease your pan well - There's nothing more upsetting than making a whole batch of brownies and they're all stuck to the pan.
  • Chill before cutting - Not chilling the brownies before cutting will likely result in a mess of falling apart brownies. While they'll still taste delicious, they may look a mess.
